Type Locality and Naming

Along the Tyuyamuyun Heights, lower reaches of the Amu Darya River, Pitnyak Uplift. Author team, 1959 (382, Table 13). Stratotype not specified. Now it is referred to (91, table 4, p.3; 446) to the Degibadam and Tanghiduv series, in contrast to P.N. Abrasimov, who in 1989 referred the V. series to analogues of the Bazarlin Fm and Sarydiirmen Fm. It is included in the Sarydiiyirmen Gr (252). Not in use.

Synonym: Upper Tyuyamuyun Formation, Верхнетюямуюнская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Gray polymictic sandstones with carbonate cement, interlayers of siltstone (aleurolites) and carbonaceous clays. Thickness 100-280m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Transgressively overlies the Lower Tyuyamuyun Fm

Upper contact

Transgressively overlain by Sandy-clayey beds, upper Bathon - lower Callovian or with erosion by Cretaceous deposits.

Regional extent

Along the uplift of Tyuyamuyun, lower reaches of the Amu Darya River, Pitnyak Uplift.
